What to expect

A real encounter shaped by nature.

Every Donsol whale shark experience depends on wildlife movement, weather, sea conditions, conservation requirements, and safety decisions. Visitors should keep their schedule flexible and treat a sighting as a privilege rather than a guarantee.

Before traveling: confirm current activity status, registration times, fees, inclusions, and weather guidance directly with the Donsol Tourism Office.

Before entering the water

Prepare in three simple steps.

  1. Register through the official visitor process. Confirm the current procedure before arriving, especially during busy or weather-sensitive periods.
  2. Attend the required briefing. Listen carefully to conservation rules, safety instructions, and the directions of trained tourism personnel and boat crew.
  3. Follow the guide in the water. Keep the required distance and respond immediately when personnel ask the group to move or return to the boat.

Responsible interaction

Respect protects the butanding.

  • Never touch, ride, chase, feed, block, or crowd a whale shark.
  • Keep noise and sudden movement to a minimum.
  • Follow all limits on swimmers, approach, photography, and interaction time.
  • Never pressure guides or crew to ignore conservation or safety rules.
  • Bring reusable water and secure personal belongings to reduce waste.

Build your Donsol stay

Make room for more than one experience.

One day

Begin with registration and the morning activity if conditions allow, enjoy local food, browse pasalubong, and end with a river experience.

Two days

Arrive and settle in on day one, enjoy the river after sunset, then keep the next morning flexible for the butanding experience.

Three days

Add kayaking, coastal scenery, local markets, and community recommendations without rushing nature-dependent plans.

Let nature set the pace.

Plan with flexibility, listen to trained local personnel, and help keep Donsol’s wildlife experience respectful for visitors and marine life alike.
